Translation

There were a lot of children then, who were all friends and who all played together. Every night, we had to play hiding. Obligatorily, [we played] hide-and-seek. But other games, too. We played with pebbles, with five pebbles, five little spheres. And then you throw them in the air, one by one, and, then, three at a time, two at a time, then three at a time. Then, [you throw] all of them. You throw one in the air and place [others] on the table. You grab it and throw it in the air. Then, you grab them all and catch the other one. Then, the other one comes back. Then, later, without any, all at once, you catch them like this. Then, the next time, you throw without touching the other one. If you touched the other one, it wasn't good. That was a big game for us. But we had no toys. We made a ball out of rags. A rag ball for throwing around and nothing else. And we played with bats, us boys. We call it "pickęjan." There was a hole in the ground and a ball, like this. And each of us had a hole to touch it with the stick. One [player] threw the ball and hit it closer-- this ball into the hole, and we hit it away. And as we hit it away from there, when he saw who touched it, if he touched down his stick [into your hole] before you, there, then you had to do it. If there were many of them [playing], you had to do it many times until you set yourself free. It wasn't easy, not at all. But this was a great game, interesting.
